And so for a little background info... in 1994 a special limited edition of 20,000 individually numbered sets worldwide was produced and sold only through U.S. military base exchange stores, as a tribute to military personnel, a symbol of the cold war, and a guarantee of freedom for West Berlin. The three piece set includes the M.I. Hummel figurine "Soldier Boy" Hummel 332, with special backstamp, a 4 inch high Checkpoint Charlie replica with wooden base and 8 5/8" wide plaque with wood posts. The brass plaque on the base reads: "We are defending the freedom of Paris, London, and New York when standing up for liberty in Berlin" (John F. Kennedy). Originally military issue price was $195 in 1994. Ours is 10556 of 20,000 pieces and is signed by Ottilie Jakob.
